Entry & Immigration
A passport valid for at least six months is required. Many nationalities — including the US, UK, Canada and CARICOM — enter visa-free. Complete the online immigration form before arrival and keep it for entry and exit.
Health
Yellow-fever vaccination is recommended (and required if arriving from an affected country). Malaria precautions are advised for extended interior travel. Pack insect repellent, sunscreen, and any personal medication.
Money & Currency
The Guyanese dollar (GYD) is the local currency; US dollars are widely accepted at hotels and operators. Cards work in Georgetown, but carry cash for the interior — ATMs are limited outside the capital.
When to Visit
Guyana is a year-round destination. The dry seasons — roughly February to April and September to November — are best for interior travel, when airstrips and trails are most accessible and wildlife gathers at waterholes.
Getting Around
Domestic flights, river boats, 4x4s and minibuses connect the country. Interior lodges arrange transfers — book these with your stay. Driving is on the left, and the Georgetown–Lethem road is an adventure in itself.
Language & Culture
English is the official language — the only one in South America — with Creolese widely spoken. Guyana's culture blends Indigenous, African, East Indian, European and Chinese heritage; festivals run all year.
