The Honourable Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo serves as Vice President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. An economist by profession, he previously served as President of Guyana from 1999 to 2011 — one of the youngest heads of state in the world at the time of his accession.
Dr. Jagdeo is internationally recognized as a champion of climate leadership. He pioneered Guyana's original Low Carbon Development Strategy, positioning the country's vast rainforests at the centre of global climate solutions and earning recognition as a United Nations 'Champion of the Earth'.
As Vice President, he leads on economic policy and the responsible management of Guyana's emerging oil and gas sector, ensuring the country's new wealth translates into lasting development for all Guyanese.
